A resident of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Sayan Biswas, PhD, is an entrepreneur, researcher, technology strategist, and physician whose career spans academia, industry, clinical medicine, and federal policy. He currently serves as a Hospitalist at Kona Community Hospital in Kona, Hawaii (March 2026–present), where he is responsible for admitting and managing hospitalized patients across medical wards and intensive care units, demonstrating expertise in acute and critical care.

Sayan Biswas, PhD, leads clean energy startup TerraCare Energy and has developed SkyWindFarm, a modular airborne wind energy system that can operate at altitudes of up to 5,000 feet. The innovative system can serve the needs of data centers as well as energy-intensive rural and off-grid systems.

Sayan Biswas, PhD, earned his doctorate in aerospace engineering at Purdue University, where his work on advanced combustion systems combined experimental testing and computational modeling. He later joined Praxair Inc., where he applied this expertise to the development of high-efficiency industrial combustion and turbomachinery technologies.

After Praxair, Sayan Biswas, PhD, joined Sandia National Laboratories as a postdoctoral appointee, conducting optical engine studies and creating a plasma ignition system that delivered measurable gains in fuel economy and efficiency. As a science and technology policy fellow at the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), he helped accelerate the commercialization of emerging technologies in critical materials, nuclear energy, and artificial intelligence.

Moreover, Sayan Biswas, PhD, is a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, and the Society of Automotive Engineers. He serves as a grant reviewer for the DOE, a journal reviewer for Applied Physics, and has spoken at events organized by leading professional engineering associations.
